TEHRAN -- The Guardian Council spokesman has said that Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati will present evidence that reformist leaders received material support from the United States when they stand trial.
“When the leaders of the seditious movement (reformist leaders) who confronted the system stand trial, Ayatollah Jannati will present the evidence of billions of dollars in contributions from the U.S. to the court,” GC spokesman Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaii told reporters at a press conference on Saturday. In a speech in Qom last week, Guardian Council Chairman Ayatollah Jannati announced that he is in possession of documents proving that following the post-election unrest, opposition leaders, including former president Mohammad Khatami and former presidential candidates Mahdi Karroubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi, received a billion dollars from the U.S. to topple the regime.
In response to a question about reformists’ participation in the political life of the country and the vetting process for reformists registering as candidates in future elections, he replied that the Guardian Council will conduct the vetting process within the framework of the law
